While attending Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic 2025, I had the pleasure of meeting the kind folks at Hank & Roy dog products. During our friendly exchange, they kindly offered a sample treat of their making, a peanut butter-filled bone. I thanked them, threw it in my accumulating goody bag, and went on my way. Nonetheless, I left the booth impressed by this generosity. Upon my return home, I unwrapped the treat and gave it to my American Brittany, Creek, who gladly accepted. Since then, my four-legged friend has enjoyed more of the good things this Kansas City company has to offer.
And good they are, indeed. Hank & Roy founder, Joe Hubbard, has ensured the company is using only the best ingredients on the market. Before launching Hank & Roy, Hubbard founded Integrated Proteins, a corporation leading the way in ethically sourcing rendered proteins for pet food. But the entrepreneur’s love for dogs and the outdoors made him ache for something more. He didn’t want to simply provide protein for pets. He desired to have a more direct connection to owners and their beloved companions. And with that, Hank & Roy was born. This Midwest, family-focused business is serving up quality products that dogs don’t just love but consist of good things owners can love too.
Hank & Roy’s slow-roasted, single to few ingredient treats provide dense, nutritional value to dogs. Many treats on the market are crammed with fillers that make them more affordable to the owner, but not as nutritional to the dog. And although treats in general are used sparingly unlike daily dog food, it’s highly commendable such a top-quality treat exists. For example, I love cooking with grass-fed beef. The flavor is superior, and the nutritional value is higher compared to conventional beef. It’s quite impressive, to me, that these dog treats are also sourced from grass-fed cattle. If we as dog owners value health and wellness for our own bodies, why wouldn’t we want the same for our canine companions? Hank & Roy proudly delivers on that.
Not only that, Hank & Roy also has sustainability on the mind via its partnership with Integrated Proteins. After livestock is harvested, Integrated Proteins utilizes the remaining animal by-products from that harvest. This material is then processed into high quality, consumable and safe ingredients to be used in pet foods. Therefore, by using the entire animal, the resource is being used to its full capability. In my book, this method is more responsible than letting the by-products go to waste in a landfill. And since the harvest is being used to its fullest, this helps with reduction in food costs, which helps everyone in the long run. This commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship is cause to celebrate Hank & Roy.
Another great thing about these products is that some of them are reusable. For example, after your pup has hollowed out a peanut butter-filled bone, simply fill it up again with a basic peanut butter (no honey, chocolate, etc), freeze it, and it’s ready to go! This feature makes the treats more appealing from a convenience and practicality standpoint.
If Hank & Roy keeps showing up on more and more shelves, do not be surprised. This company is delivering wonderful things to the industry as it’s serving owners, their dogs, and the planet. My dog seems to agree.
